The purpose of this recurring Tuesday/Thursday event is to provide training and mentorship to newly selected Chief Petty Officers from the Monterey Bay area (DLI, NPS and NSAM)

Join us as we gather to mark the 25th anniversary of 9/11, 2001.

Our ceremony will include the Observance of Colors, a performance of America the Beautiful by Velvet Piini, welcome remarks by NPS President retired Vice Adm. Ann Rondeau, reflections by U.S. Army Col. Dino Pick, Director of International Graduate Programs and by Center for Homeland Defense and Security Deputy Director, Jodi Stiles, then a walk to the NPS 9/11 Memorial.

Twenty-five years ago, our nation experienced a terror attack that forever changed America and shaped the course of military service for a generation. On that day, nearly 3,000 innocent lives were lost in New York City, Washington, D.C., and Pennsylvania. In the years that followed, thousands of service members, first responders, and public servants answered the call to defend our nation, and many made the ultimate sacrifice.

As members of the Naval Postgraduate School community, we share a profound connection to that legacy of service. Many among us served during the conflicts that followed September 11, while others have dedicated their careers to advancing homeland security, defense innovation, and national preparedness. This anniversary offers an opportunity to reflect on the resilience of our nation, honor those we lost, and recognize all who have borne the burden of protecting our freedoms.

This four-day rapid concept generation workshop will employ warfighter-centered design to explore how we might build, maintain, and sustain the Future Fleet.

DESIGN CHALLENGE: How might advanced manufacturing and emerging technologies in shipbuilding, sustainment, and repair as a "Naval Forge" of the future enable warfighting concepts and enhance all-domain force design?

With one overarching design challenge, small teams of mid-career officers and enlisted personnel, government engineers, and industry partners will facilitate a rapid concept generation process using tools of warfighter-centered design.

The Naval Postgraduate School’s Joint Interagency Field Experimentation (JIFX) program hosts quarterly collaborative field experimentation events that bring together Department of Defense, U.S. government, industry, academia, and allied partners to evaluate emerging technologies in an operational environment.

JIFX provides NPS faculty and students, private companies, government organizations, and academic partners an opportunity to develop, demonstrate, and evaluate new technologies while working directly with operational users. The program supports rapid technology development through hands-on experimentation, collaboration, and iterative learning.

JIFX 27-1 will take place November 2–5, 2026, at the NPS Field Laboratory at Camp Roberts.
